Douglas Alfred Peters

September 27, 1929 - March 7, 2022


On March 7th, Doug Peters passed away peacefully at North York General Hospital in Toronto, after a lengthy battle with respiratory issues. Loving husband of Joan Thomas, predeceased by his wife Jean and all of his siblings. Father of two daughters, Denise Schweigert (Darrell), and Michele Bolton. Step-father to Nigel Thomas (Dale), Derek Thomas, Glenn Thomas (Keith). Proud grandfather of Chantelle Lemire, Brandon Lemire and Tyler Bolton. Great-grandfather to Mackenzie, Milo, Teddy and Ryelynn. Born in India, Doug immigrated to Canada in 1966 with his family for a new life in Toronto, Ontario. An avid athlete, Doug played tennis and cricket in his early years and continued competing in tennis at a championship level even after moving to Canada. A brilliant clarinetist and musician, Doug played in jazz bands in India and continued to perform all his life, sharing his love of music with everyone. He began his career in the airline industry, then trained and transitioned into the burgeoning computer industry, spearheading many endeavours that were ahead of their time. Doug retired while still in the computer sector as a Systems Analyst for the City of Scarborough. Throughout his life, Doug was also deeply involved in the community through many groups, making countless contributions with his creativity, inventiveness, and generosity of spirit. His family remains deeply proud of Doug beyond his years and he was highly respected and loved by all those fortunate enough to meet him.
